Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) for Restaurants
Robots-as-a-service (RaaS) for Restaurants are slowly, and quietly, transforming the industry by automating repetitive tasks, improving service efficiency, and filling labor shortages. Almost a third of restaurant operators, according to the National Restaurant Association (NRA), are considering automating operations due to rising costs and lack of available employees. Nearly half of restaurant operators surveyed by the NRA believe automation will become more commonplace given the increasing workforce and delivery demands. Similar to how online ordering has become a mainstream alternative to in-house dining, restaurateurs are likely to lower operating costs through the implementation of robotics. In the past decade there have been feasible applications for automated tableside and kiosk ordering, as well as mechanized chefs, servers, bartenders, cooks, and baristas. In addition, advances have been made in the areas of table bussing, food preparation, and meal assembly.
The restaurant industry is becoming safer, more personalized, and more efficient with the help of robots. According to modernrestaurantmanagement.com, in the near term, restaurants will adopt a hybrid approach that combines modern technology with human services. Robotics can free staff to be more focused on providing personalized experiences that address the needs of individual customers, leaving routine tasks to computerized processes.
Robotic technology can be exceedingly expensive. Fortunately, there is an alternative financial platform, referred to as RaaS (robots-as-a-service) that is an outgrowth of the Internet of Things (IoT). By definition, RaaS is a contractual arrangement whereby a service robot is installed on a pay per usage or subscription basis. RaaS are differentiated from lease contracts in that the robot provider continues to own the device. While the adoption of RaaS in restaurants is still in its early stages, it is expected to grow significantly as more operators recognize the benefits of affordable automation.
